Loving is not just looking at each other, it's looking in the same direction.
                        ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Just gimme a slobbery lick...and I'm yours!

MY SIX WORDS TODAY:

What's up with all the 3-D?!!

The most recent 'upcoming movie' for the summer is CATS AND DOGS in 3D. I thought I'd talk about the influx of the dimensional movies, and dogs today. Seems anymore when I turn around, a new animated [or combination live/animated] movie comes out and it's always in "3-D"!!! And, personally, I don't see any improvement in the content of the flicks with the special effects. For me, the movie should be entertaining. It's the writing, the script, that counts. For months a while ago, the Hollywood writers went on strike. Wanting more money of course, for their work. Only to return to their jobs and the writing is far worse than it was BEFORE the strike. Who cares if a finger comes 'out of the screen' pointing to you, or a snowflake falls on the audience...it certainly doesn't improve on the entertainment value. And there is a new phenomenon now for 3-D television. That's one big whoopty-do too. I could care less...what I would look forward to seeing is improvement on viewing something worth while...a story. I'm all for special effects if it's not overly done. But I'm really, secretly, hoping that the majority of people tire of it all and we can get back to being inspired by interest; enthralled with content instead of dimension. I read where more than twenty movies of the 3rd dimension, alone, are planned to be released this year. I'm hoping that the extra charge and cost of the movie-going audience will NOT go. And Hollywood will learn a lesson to all this nonsensical fad...no wonder they're losing money. They're pricing themselves out of business. Read more of what long-time movie critic, Roger Ebert, has to say about this 3-D stampede. And I can't help but wonder if wearing the special glasses is not presenting a eye health risk in some way...

CAMERA CRITTERS and WEEKEND FUNNIES

And since the rest of my blog today is heavy with animation, I thought I'd just combine 'Camera Critters' and Weekend Funnies [since this letter to God is so cute and humorous] all into one...

Dear God: Is it on purpose our names are the same, only reversed?

Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?

Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a Dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

Dear God: If a Dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad Dog?

Dear God: We Dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand? ...More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

And...

Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things that I remember to be in good graces with you:

1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.

2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.

3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.

4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.

5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.

6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.

7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.

8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table

9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.

10. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.

11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch.

12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

Oh, and P.S. ---

Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?

Signed....I'm being good
DOG

Hobby Lobby, more so than Michael's, has been recently stocking Autumn and Halloween goodies for us crafters!! Where I went to buy more craft acrylics and some pumpkins and a floral pick. Yippee....Remember a few posts in the past, with a little 'teaser' about me being a copycat and a new Halloween project I had viewed from another blogger who likes the celebration as much as I do? Well, with two broken jigsaw blades, Bud started cutting it for me! Oh, the ruined saw blades, it's all my fault of course 'cause it was my idea - hehehehe I began by drawing the letters needed for the decoration, with plans in my mind how I'm going to paint them and give them the finishing touches; then Bud took over. Mine aren't the EXACT copy of hers at all...mine are painted differently!! It's just the 'idea' I 'imitated'. The wood I decided to draw the letters on was extremely hard wood!! Hence the broken saw blades that instigated a trip to Home Depot. But, it was a good rainy day project.

So, the past few days, during the numerous tropical rains off and each day...I got to painting 'em. I completed them all. All 12 of the letters Bud cut out for me. They will eventually be placed on the fireplace mantel in just a little over 2 months. Golly, October is only a short 2 months away -give or take a week or two? Wow. Fun time of year for me...regarding Halloween that is. Here they are - not in order tho. Finished!! And ready. The letters, if you can't figure it out, will spell TRICK OR TREAT...

...and, if you can't decipher what they are, I have placed mouseover captions:

After the rain shower, the sun came out...
Remnants of the morning dew,
The day'll be steamy hot, no doubt.
But, show off, I will, my crepe myrtle -strawberries and cream
Of nature's ruby gems, all red, glistening, for the week's theme
With a trio of photos for y'all to view-------

A pelican feather----

Of all the pebbles on the shore
These were meant for me...
Looking back, I find
My footprints still remain --
All too soon to disappear,
Sand shifting with the tide, each and every grain...
Outgoing surf washes the memory back to sea;
Footprints gone...gone forever; nevermore.

Once again I speak from my heart about politics; media coverage. Now that the oil spill has been capped what happened to the ever-present coverage? Last I heard there was a leak, but not to be alarmed. Well, I say, la di da!! Where are the follow-up segments of what lies in store for the livelihoods of so many people that have been altered? Is BP still paying out damages from lawsuits? I DO KNOW that the one who wanted his 'life back'...is going to be replaced by an American, so says BP! What about the animals? Where are the stories now? :::sigh::: And locally...about a month ago, I posted a little summary of the old, decrepit, asbestos filled Memorial Coliseum and the big political hullabaloo regarding either saving it, or demolishing it entirely. Those who fought to get it torn down won of course, after years of debating..and the local media covered the bickering nearly every 24 hours either on the TV news or write-ups on the front page of the newspaper. For a few days during its demolition it was filmed on the local stations. But the city's media forgot to keep us residents posted. Well, I for one, anxiously awaited the skyline to be rid of the monstrosity. So, today I thought I'd share that it is ALL GONE, along with some cellphone photos! I don't understand why all the continual coverage for so long that we get bored of hearing about it all...then, all of a sudden, nothing. The building no longer exists AND the debris has been cleared. For that, dear readers, I AM VERY HAPPY....

Favorites come and go...but this one remains---

Religion isn't something I feel comfortable sharing, with so many readers. I feel it's sincerely something that you either hold dear to your heart and soul, or you don't wish to discuss it at all...both reasons apply to me. I don't like being preached to by others who's beliefs and thoughts are not mine alone. But y'all know I love art. Since today is Sunday, the Sabbath to Christians, I thought I'd write a little bit of my favorite piece of artwork depicting the theme of religion. Ever since childhood, I remember a large painting of my mother's. She had it on the wall next to her bedside along with a table and her Bible. Today, I still have her very worn Bible, but I don't know what happened to the painting. It was a reproduction of course, of the famous work by Henrich Hofmann. A German painter who painted Christ at Gethsemane in the late 1800s. Tho I don't have one of the same, I must say it remains my favorite painting with the religious theme. Oftentimes I thought of painting one in an attempt to get one like mom's. I loved the muted colors with my mother's piece. Many times I've looked online to find one that is the same color tones. I've searched through artwork at antique stores, looking for something ever so similar to her's. Through the years, nothing has ever surfaced that is close. But, as I said above, it remains my favorite painting, and some day I may find one that is done in the muted tones like on the site about the artist....
      From Wikipedia:
Four of the most famous works of Hofmann are in the possession of the Riverside Church in New York: Christ and the Rich Young Ruler, Christ in Gethsemane, Christ in the Temple and Picture of Christ. According to information of the Riverside Church, the painting Christ in Gethsemane is without much doubt one of the most copied paintings in the world. The religious body of Hofmann’s work has gained in importance in the past years. One of the reasons for the increasing popularity of his artwork is the publication of his paintings and pencil drawings depicting the life of Jesus Christ in The Second Coming of Christ, the interpretation of the Bible by Paramahansa Yogananda, the teacher of Yoga. Heinrich Hofmann was one of the pre-eminent painters of his time. The Sunday Strand – at that time a very popular British magazine– describes him as the most influential contemporary German painter. Hofmann’s style of painting was unique in its own way but at the same time he based his work on the traditional art of old German, Dutch and Italian masters. While in Rome he also came in touch with the Nazarenes – especially through the influence of Cornelius – but throughout his life he remained faithful to the great examples of the Renaissance. Religious paintings take the center stage in Hofmann’s work; but he also created numerous portraits and pictures that depict mythological and historical topics.

Remarkable, nature is...

MY SIX WORDS TODAY:

Nature's colors illuminate my dull days.

To me, being outdoors and working with nature is a priority. Reaping the joys of colors and beauty from the work involved makes everything worth the small efforts of each and every season...there is always something to do and enjoy. If nothing beckons an awaiting task, then, just sit back and dream of the good life we have. [see camera critter photo below]
