Yes indeed, I have been known to bring home a Sailor or Two now and then. Some of them I've even kept!!!------

What'll we do with a drunken sailor,
What'll we do with a drunken sailor,
What'll we do with a drunken sailor,
Earl-aye in the morning?

Chorus:
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Earl-aye in the morning

1. Put him in the long boat till he's sober,
2. Keep him there and make 'im bale 'er.
3. Shave his belly with a rusty razor.
4. Put him in bed with the captain's daughter.

Yesterday, Bud and I took the day off from painting the house. The back which is all done with paneled siding [the other three sides of the house are red "used" brick...] being painted. We finished that part of the project on Wednesday afternoon. Yay!! The rest will be a 'piece of cake' compared to all the painting we did in the back. So, taking the day off, we decided to go see the movie that opened last weekend..."The Soloist", starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downing, Jr. It's based on an incredible talented man that suffers from schizophrenia. His talent is music. His idol, Beethoven. The movie is an excellent story...all the way through. There are some hairy scenes because of his handicap...but, the thing that was missing was the amount of playing his cello or violin. He played both in the movie. But NOT ENOUGH. I was sorely disappointed for that one fact. I'd give the movie a 3.5 out of 5 being the most excellent. Good. A very good story, but it could have been a lot better in my estimation.

  4. I didn't know anything about Jamie Foxx until this week's American Idol. I didn't care for his singing, but it sounds like he's a good actor.

I read this today and thought of yesterday's topic of your post. Check it out, if you have time.

  12. Anni,

Great post. Your sailors are adorable and I know they go perfectly with your theme.

Sorry you were a little disappointed by the movie. I've seen the advertisements and thought the story would be good. Too bad about the music. Sometimes these big directors miss what would make the movie tops.

Take care, my friend and take the weekend to relax.
    Blessings,
    Mary

  19. Such a cute Show and Tell, Love those sailors.

I went to see the Soloist earlier this week. I thought it was a wonderful story. I hadn't thought about it but you're right. It would have been good if there had been more parts with him playing his music. I thought the acting was superb

  20. Anni.. The Sailors are awesome. I just packed away a 12 piece set of Norman Rockwell mugs with Sailors on them and took them to Goodwill. My Husband told me to just throw them out.. he said nobody collects that anymore.. but I didn't listen. They were perfect.. not a scratch and I Knew someone would enjoy them.. so glad to see there are folks out there that still do.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  27. Hi Anni...

Well my friend...I couldn't help but get over to your place "lickety-split" after you told me that you had brought home a bunch of sailors!!! hehe!!! You're a hoot, my friend!

I love all of your old sailors...in fact, I just got a new set of shell dishes and would like to do a coastal tablescape! Your old sailors would be the perfect addition to the table centerpiece!!! They sure have alot of character!

I've seen the ads for "The Soloist"...thought that it would be a very interesting movie! I'll have to see it! Thanks for the movie critique!

Have a fabulous Friday, my friend!
    Warmest wishes,
    Chari

  29. great 55. the soloist looks like it would be good. it's based on a true story. sadly, the real cello/violin player is no longer among us. :-/ did you also know that jamie foxx has the number 1 song on the charts? :)

  30. Hi Annie, Just stop by to say Hello and
Aha the song is so cute! Love the sailors! My day was a sailor.

  31. Love your dinner guest there!!! How cute is that!!! Love the eyes peeking out at the photographer!!!

The swine flu is bad here in SC. One high school girl said she coughed almost continually. Any kind of flu I try to avoid. I have systemic lupus, an auto-immune disease, and being on prednisone, my immunity is jeopardized, and what can be just an ordinary illness to others can be life threatening to me. So I will stay away from the stores and crowds as much as possible til this all dies down.

    Loved your sailor figurines!!! Adorable!!!

  35. "I have been known to bring home a Sailor or Two now and then. Some of them I've even kept!!!" hahaha very cute ;-)

Soloist sounds like a good drama but I have a hard time watching movies that involve mental illness. I liked "A Beautiful Mind" but the part scene with his son in the bathtub just made me twitch.

  36. All the nice girls love a sailor...guess that makes you a nice girl, Anni...lol.

The Soloist sounds interesting. Although not about a schizophrenic, The Rainman with Dustin Hoffman remains one of my favourite movies. Shine, with Russell Crowe, is another.

Oh, yes, your beautiful feline friend is coming to dinner...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well look at all those handsome sailors you've brought into your home! hehe That song is a hoot! hehe

It's funny you should post about The Soloist because just yesterday I was reading about it on MSN. Sounds like a great movie and I'll have to rent it when it comes out on video.

Loved your Friday 55....is it Winston or Tahoe coming for dinner?? xoxo
