“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

Dona nobis pacem - grant us peace.

Peace to me is a concept defined by the idealistic state of relationship with an absence of hostilities - be it with individual psyche, or between two or more persons; still, peace can be considered from an international level, that being without conflict and violence.

In times of history you could go back to the Anglos with the use of "pas" which literally means freedom of disorder. Latin, it's "pax". The Hebrew translation is "shalom" --safety, welfare; a non-violent lifestyle. Maybe one could consider it to be 'respect' or 'justice' and goodwill to fellow mankind.

I have experienced in my lifetime, a 'peace' of mind which reflects a calm, serene, and meditative approach to my family, my relationships of my family's members. I have more times than not felt tranquility — an absence of disturbance or agitation. On the whole, my peace of mind represents contentment.

With peace, either individually, or ideally the world...it would mean an ideal state used to describe the end of a conflict. Be it in the household, the community, the country, the world! In order for that effect to take place, the world peace, there must be a beginning....peace of mind with every individual. That's my humble opinion, of course.

For my globe, I used one of my favorite quotes, one I used to say to my own children when the 'sibling rivalry' took 'hold, I always reminded them of this ---today both my kids [now grown] use this quote - A LOT!!!:

Dona nobis pacem - grant us peace.

  18. The words on your globe -so very true! I think about this too every Sunday that I get to church and at a certain point during the service, we have a "Sharing of the Peace" when parishioners reach out to shake hands with those seated near to them. A moment in time when at least however many are attending that day, for just that brief interval, unclench the fist and reach out -in peace -and I just wish this would happen more and more, the world over. Peace to you and yours.

  22. The quote you’ve used on your globe is one my father used to say to us as kids. Thanks for the reminder and for your early morning visits to each of my three Peace Posts. Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that ‘Peace is in every step’ … a choice in every instant no matter what’s happening around or within us. As each of us blogs for peace today, we join our minds and hearts together to create this reality in our world.
    Hugs and blessings,

  30. I love the idea of peace and I pray for peace but the word of God tells us that Peace will not come until the Son of God begins HIS reign. It tells that that men will cheer and cry out Peace Peace and then sudden destruction. I think that as we pray for peace for the world we are praying for the return of Christ and that is a GOOD thing........

    Peace to you dear girl !

  31. Ah... I see. yes, I do custom globes for myself and for anyone else who wants one and/or is "graphically challenged". I certainly don't want someone who might join in to sit it out for lack of a graphic! Not when that's so easily fixed.

    So if any of your visitors fall in that category, feel free to send them my way. If not for this BlogBlast, then for the next one!

    I don't see my name in the comments, so I assume it was during the time when I took a break from blogging, so it is good to see this today, as I search for this year's peace posts! :-)

    Peace to you and yours, Anni x
