Note: This is way cool!! FINALLY!!!---Blogger now has post scheduling where you can make your post at a certain time for the following day --click publish after setting the time of day you want your post to be 'activated'...and there you have it. Super!! I can honestly say: "It's about time!!"

Spring TIME in our backyard....

How I envy mother birds...they prepare for their offspring...
...they have their offspring...feed 'em...
nurture them...teach them...and within weeks their offspring is ready to leave!!

How lucky can they be? LOL

Mockingbirds are a group of New World passerine birds from the Mimidae family. They are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds, often loudly and in rapid succession. Mockingbirds also have a reputation of being fierce defenders of their nests. [this I know for a fact...there was 'pecking' order with me and her a few times!] There are about 17 species in three genera. These do not appear to form a monophyletic lineage: Mimus and Nesomimus are quite closely related; their closest living relatives appear to be some thrashers, such as the Sage Thrasher. Melanotis is more distinct; it seems to represent a very ancient basal lineage of Mimidae. [info courtesy of Wikipedia]

They are also the state bird of Texas, U S A

George W. Bush, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso have all died. Due to a glitch in the mundane/celestial time-space continuum, all three arrive at the Pearly Gates more or less simultaneously, even though their deaths have taken place decades apart.

The first to present himself to Saint Peter is Einstein. Saint Peter questions him. "You look like Einstein, but you have NO idea the lengths certain people will go to, to sneak into Heaven under false pretenses. Can you prove who you really are?" Einstein ponders for a few seconds and asks, "Could I have a blackboard and some chalk?" Saint Peter complies with a snap of his fingers.

The blackboard and chalk instantly appear. Einstein proceeds to describe with arcane mathematics and symbols his special theory of relativity. Saint Peter is suitably impressed. "You really *are* Einstein! Welcome to heaven!"

The next to arrive is Picasso. Once again Saint Peter asks for his credentials. Picasso doesn't hesitate. "Mind if I use that blackboard and chalk?" Saint Peter says, "Go ahead."

Picasso erases Einstein's scribbles and proceeds to sketch out a truly stunning mural. Bulls, satyrs, nude women: he captures their essences with but a few strokes of the chalk. Saint Peter claps. "Surely you are the great artist you claim to be! Come on in!"

The last to arrive is George W. Bush. Saint Peter scratches his head. "Einstein and Picasso both managed to prove their identity. How can you prove yours?"

George W. looks bewildered, "Who are Einstein and Picasso?"

Saint Peter sighs, "Come on in, George."

Alright, so I'm gonna have to look into this Post Scheduling thing. How awesome is that? Your pictures were so fun and the fact that you had it so I could move my cursor and read little notes about the pictures was fun! I love your comment about the birds leaving home right away though, LOL!

You're going to love post scheduling. I have had it with Typepad for a while now and can't imagine being without it now! As for springtime...it's wonderful to see all the newbies in nature. Thanks for sharing these. By the way, the mockingbird is Florida's state bird too. We do have lots of them...and yes...they are aggressive. At least they entertain with all their mocked songs. The blue jay is just as aggressive (and meaner looking) without such a varied songbook.

It's about Time for scheduling is right! After so long with WordPress, I was amazed to discover that Blogger didn't have it.

I loved the series of photos. Very nice work!
I have a nest in my chimney (no, I don't use the fireplace). Have no idea what kind of birds they are, but I love hearing them through their cycle. I've lived in places where there weren't any birds, and I really missed their 'noise.' It's a gift to have them so close all the time.
Thanks for the joke, too. I laughed so loudly I startled the dog.

YTSL had this to say...

One of the cool things for me about Photo Hunt is getting to see pictures of things, etc. I had read about but never seen. In this case, it's mockingbirds. Thanks much, Hootin' Anni! :)

Melli had this to say...

Yep! Scheduled posts are great! I've used them the last 3 days! I always post before I go to bed at night for all the early birds -- I was always putting up "midnight" posts at 10:00 pm... now they actually go UP at midnight! LOL!

Your garden shots are beautiful - but I gotta tell ya -- I would NOT want to be a bird! I would have rather had MORE time with my offspring than less!!! LOL! I'm such a stingy mom! (fortunately for ME they all live nearby and still WANT to spend time with me too!) I wonder if I will ALWAYS be able to say that...

poor man's nicole richie had this to say...

yeah anni, that autopublish will keep us updated in posting timely blogs.
onto your PH entry, those birds are pretty interesting. but i hope they do not mock other creatures, do they? LOL
honestly i have not seen a mocking bird.

I used post scheduling for the first time today, too!

I took a bunch of pictures this week of blue jays. There was a momma and daddy (I think?) and 2 babies with little gray down feathers. Unfortunately, when my dog was on a walk in the dark, she was steered around two babies, but chomped down on another right in her path. They didn't know they needed to get out of the way!

Anyway, have a great weekend!
