“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

When I see the word "delicious" I think the shortened version of the word delicatessen -delicious, deli for short; lol-!
Well, I'm a big fan of sandwiches...they're quick, easy to clean up after, and.....

D E L I C I O U S!!!

I made this for my lunch and said after my first bite ---"de-e-e-licious!" Grilled Turkey Pastrami with yellow mustard. Light Russian Rye bread [I love the flavor of the caraway seeds]. A handful of Frito Corn Chips™ and thinly sliced deli 'kosher' dill pickle spears!! Creamy cole slaw on the side. Yummy.

<><><>

John Montagu [the fourth Earl of Sandwich -Islands- today's Hawai'ian Islands] was known to order some 'slices of meat between two pieces of bread'....and others began asking for "What Sandwich is having"....and so the beginning of my favorites....the sandwich as we know it today!! If I'd lived back in 'his day', I'd probably be worshiping the ground he walked on for coming up with the idea of the sandwich.

My personal favorite deli sandwich is from Jason's Deli found all over the United States [at least the more Southern states that I'm sure of ---oh ya, a few in Colorado too]. Jason's was founded in Texas I believe [Irvington?]. The first time I ate there was in one that is located in Arizona...and I was hooked! I continually order the same, with two Jason's here in Corpus --and one just blocks from our son's apartment in Houston and one across the street from his corporate broker's office ---the hot "Sergeant Pepper" - shaved, DELICIOUS garlic roast beef, piled high on a crispy sourdough bread mini loaf. All topped with grilled red, yellow, and bell peppers along with sauteed onions and melted provolone cheese, and a delectable mayo-spread that is tasty beyond description. On the side, chips, pickles and Au jus. Oh ya, I can't leave without mentioning the soft serve ice cream cones free with the order if you choose....sure 'nough, I CHOOSE!! The sandwich is so high and thick you can't get your mouth around it gracefully!! And all on the menu has NO trans fats which is a plus for me!!! :::drooling::: Guess where I'm going to eat today? LOL Here's the pdf menu --but I don't need that, I know just what I'm gonna have!!!

Wish I had a picture of them....

  3. Yummy. I love pastrami or corned beef sandwiches. Yes, the "Earl" did a good thing. My Dad's name was Earl and we used to say he made a good sandwich. He always called them "Dagwoods". LOL

  21. I agree with you. Sandwiches are the most practical way of eating. Not too much mess. Your right about who I am but oops! you've mentioned it. I was asking for your email so I could tell you the story. Anyway, that's okay.
    Over here rice is our staple food and mostly people can't do without it. How I'd wish they would.

  25. Good Morning Anni,
    Yum, Yum, that sammich(as we in the South call them)looks so good. I've heard of Pastrami, but I don't think I've actually had it to eat before. We don't have no Jason's here in our Southern part. I've never even heard of Jason's either. We do have alot of Subway's which I love to eat there. I had no idea about the history of the sandwich. "THANK YOU" for sharing your sammich with us and the history behind the sandwich. Well, if you go eat there again today, you be sure to take some pictures of it and share your sammich with us again. Take care my friend and have a great day. May God Bless You and Yours.

    Love & Hugs,
    Karen H.
