“A wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard...
Why can't we all be like that bird?”

This week's theme - STEPS

This week was a difficult one....mainly 'cause we live in the flat lands. Rarely are there any 'steps' to be seen except for the most common - 'stepping up to one's porch' or 'stepping up on a curb'. I see steps around town and such, but mostly, they're all ramps these days. I thought of the seawall 'steps' to make way to the beaches inside the city limits, but nah---I've written and posted about those before. There are escalators and steps in the malls and city/county buildings, but again, too common for me. I try to go for the unusual. So, the theme 'steps' was slow in coming to me for the right idea.

While walking along the North Beach this past week, and enjoying the surf ---hubby and I came upon a partially buried......

Okay, when he said "Watch your step" ---I thought this will suffice. Tho it's a long shot, it IS a form of 'step', I guess. Like dance steps...this is footsteps. It takes 'steps' to make footprints in the sand.... [Thank goodness I had tennis shoes on (see my foot at the lower left corner) --or I'd be freakin' out even today if I had 'stepped' on it barefooted!!

**Explanation of what I ALMOST stepped on is 1st comment in the comment section**

    [I didn't want to put the 'dead' part on the outside of the blog this week]* *

  2. Wow, you did go outside the box for this one. I was just showing my pictures to my daughter and she said, "Dad, you just go down to the point, can't you think outside the box"> I just told her "no" and posted them anyway, he, he, he. Have a good weekend!

  4. I've been looking for footprints everywhere. But, alas, no footprints to photo for me because all around me are cemented grounds. Hehe.

    Good photo hunt!

  7. What a great way to think. I was thinking of doing some footteps in the sand from last year st the beach, but at the last moment, I changed my mind.

  8. Oh poor pelican. I must admit I wondered what the object was. Anyway, good imagination for step.

  9. Oh. My. God. When I was looking at the photo I thought they were a pair of pliers or something. Only when reading your comment did I understand what it really was..... how freaky! Great photo and great theme, by the way!

  11. I thought that was what that was but was hoping it wasnt!! Poor thing!! Your take on steps was good!! You are like me you try to THINK of something that Is different every week with the word...sometimes though I just cannot come up with that DIFFERENT way of looking at the word. This week I just went with the normal way of STEPS...Sandy
    Have a great weekend!!

    Oh, how sad. I don't participate in the photo hunt thing, but I love your desire to think outside the box. Not enough of that today.
    About the spam problem... I moved to wordpress just a few months ago and love it! Even without being a member of anything (like I was tied to with MSN live spaces, argh) or having to type in the word verification thingy ( which I always have to do at least twice), wordpress has a spam catcher built in and I've not had even one problem and I am notified in my inbox of all the comments (but I think that is optional). I, personally, love it!
    By the way, I love to read books too... next to gardening (which depends on the weather), a book is a wonderful friend.
    Have a great weekend!

  13. I think that's a great take on the theme! You can see very clearly where you "stepped". I remember coming across a dead seagull, half buried, just like that one. It is sad.

  15. Very creative, glad you didn't step into the dead pelican, that would have been a mis-step...

  22. love yr footsteps in the sand pic, now why didnt i think of that :)

  23. Looks like the skeleton remains... already most of the bird has returned to the earth. I guess better stepping on a pelican skeleton (say that five times out loud) than a jellyfish.

    I stayed in the box with the lid on firmly this week.
